Dr Adam Meshack Akyoo

akyoo 150x150Dr Adam Meshack Akyoo is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at theCollege of Economics and Business Studies(COEBS) at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). He holds a PhD in International Food Standards in Agri-foods from SUA/Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS).

He has been involved in research on agricultural risk management, artisanal mining in Tanzania, international food standards on spices, value chain analysis in agro-industries, internal capacity building for SMEs in Tanzania for domestic and international competitiveness, Cashew marketing in Tanzania, and Partial Equilibrium (PE) modeling for some selected crops in Tanzania (Maize, Rice, Wheat, Sugar). He also worked as a banker (both investment and commercial) during the 1990s.

He has research interests in value chain development, poverty alleviation, agricultural finance, entrepreneurship in agriculture, gender issues and Policy analysis (specifically PE modeling). He has published and consulted widely in Tanzania on food safety standards, agricultural risk management, microfinance, marketing of agri-commodities, biogas energy dissemination and outlook projection studies on major Tanzanian staples. Dr Akyoo has also immense experience in both regional and international collaborative research projects and programs.

In the former case, he is currently the Research Director for the Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) at SUA. The Network draws collaborators from across the Eastern and Southern African region to include Pretoria & Stellenbosch Universities (BFAP Institute) in South Africa, Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) in Zambia, University of Kinshasa (Institute of Social and economic Research –IRES)  in DR Congo, Lilongwe University (CARD Institute) in Malawi, Mondlane University (CEPPAG Institute) in Mozambique, Egerton University (Tegemeo Institute) in Kenya, Makerere University in Uganda and the University of Zimbabwe.   In the latter, Dr Akyoo has been and still working with several international partners from Denmark (Copenhagen, DTU & Aalborg Universities), Italy (Bologna & Pavia Universities), France (UdA University) and a number of American partners (Missouri, Michigan & Iowa state Universities).

He currently instructs on production economics, Agribusiness risk management and Institutional and Behavioural Economics courses for both undergraduate and graduate students and supervises postgraduate degree research projects in the related fields.
